Bob Rowe’s Leadership Message

Christa McAuliffe Elementary,Home of the Challengers” has an outstanding reputation for being one of the top schools in the Oceanside Unified School District and the state.  As a result, it has been recognized twice as a California Distinguished School.  We understand that by creating a safe learning environment, where expectations for academic and social success are clearly defined and monitored, we can take a great school and make it an exceptional school. We also know that by galvanizing the staff, the parents, and most importantly, the students, with a common vision based on a positive Growth MindSet (Dr. Carol Dweck), a Balanced Literacy Program and a rigorous, Performance Based Math Program we can ensure all students succeed at McAuliffe.

Our mission states:  “We are a community of learners that promote positive relationships, personal responsibility, and academic rigor for all students.”  It is clear that we need students to be life-long learners, creative thinkers and responsible individuals.  As we move into the 21st century, the skills necessary to be successful are rapidly changing and it is imperative that we embrace the new Common Core State Standards 21st Century Learning Skills summarized by the 4C’s: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration and Communication.

Therefore, our collective focus for the 2015-16 school year is:  “All students will demonstrate their thinking, both verbally and in writing, to show understanding of their learning.”
