Love on a Leash at McAuliffe

Love on a Leash, also known as The Foundation for Pet Provided Therapy, has a Certified Visit Team who visit McAuliffe twice a month on the 1st  and 3rd Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. A Visit Team consists of a handler who is certified with their dog. A therapy pet's primary function is to brighten someone's day. Our dogs and handlers visit classrooms and listen to children read.  Currently we have 4 certified therapy dogs at McAuliffe who belong to staff members. They are: Prince, the Standard Poodle, Baron, the Bichon; Bailey, the Australian Shepherd; and Kai the Golden.

A therapy dog is a dog of any size, breed, color, or least one year of age. The most important factor is the dog's personality. He should be even-tempered, good-natured and able to accept handling by other people. The ideal therapy dog should be alert and attentive to what is going on around him, but focused enough to remember what he is supposed to be doing. Therapy dogs must be able to interact with other dogs and people in a calm, controlled manner.
