Homework Policy

Homework contributes towards building responsibility, self-discipline, and lifelong learning habits. Time spent on homework directly influences students' ability to meet the state and district's rigorous academic standards.  Homework is designed to reinforce classroom-learning objectives, content standards, and address individual student needs and abilities. Based on Oceanside Unified School District Board Policy, the following is Christa McAuliffe Elementary School's school-wide homework policy:

Kindergarten               15 minutes per day, 4 days per week

Grades 1-3                  30-45 minutes per day, 4 days per week

Grades 4-5                  30-60 minutes per day, 4 days per week

It is important that elementary students read 15-20 minutes daily in addition to regular assigned homework. While each teacher may have indvidual classroom homework procedures, the above guidelines will be followed on a school-wide basis.

Making homework a family commitment can help your child develop lifelong study skills, self-discipline and independence. If you have any questions please talk with your child's teacher or call our School Based Resource Teacher, Mr. Dan Jarvis at (760) 901-8400.
